Safety: The New Luxury in Condo Management℠


In the coronavirus (Covid-19) world, condo associations are rethinking what luxury means.

This article is based on years of experience with infection control procedures with leading companies in healthcare management services.

Many condos are located on some of the most valuable real estate in the world.  The views, the shopping, the amenities, and the proximity to work make condos especially valuable … and are the only way many of us could afford to live in such a location.  But, one trade-off is that we don’t get the land to ourselves.  We share the prime real estate with many neighbors.

While having neighbors living so close can be a great experience, in the recent coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, there are many more opportunities for exposure.  Residents are touching the same elevator buttons, doorknobs, and breathing in the common areas as their neighbors.  A lot of our neighbors.  And, if they have a dog, they are probably touching things far more than most of their neighbors.  How can the board and management company make the building safe?

During the pandemic, a number of Chicago condo law firms have sent information with recommendations regarding dealing with the coronavirus.  There is very little in these in the way of helpful operational direction.  Suggestions include installing sanitizer dispensers and doing additional cleaning in common areas.  Sanitizer has been out of stock for weeks, and additional cleaning in common areas is good, but more is needed.
